A Fine Transitional Style Marquetry-Inlaid Side Cabinet with a Rouge de rance Marble Top.
Marked ‘SJ' and dated 1912 in the marquetry.
This impressive side cabinet has a red and grey veined marble top above a concave frieze and gilt-bronze band. Below are two marquetry trellis inlaid panels centred by a shallow breakfront cupboard door framed by gilt-bronze encadrement and a finely cast gilt-bronze garland of trailing husks. The door is centred by an exceptional marquetry inlaid vase issuing flowers, vines and wheat sheaves, with attendant birds.
The cabinet has a shaped apron centred by a finely cast gilt-bronze acanthus mount and stands on four cabriole legs with gilt-bronze paw feet.
