A good pair of George III silver entree dishes made in 1806 by William Bennett of London. They are of rectangular shape with fine gadroon borders. The dishes are engraved to the outside of one side of each of the lids with the coat of arms of Sir Benjamin Hobhouse (1757 -1831)and to each of one side to the interior of the bases. The original detachable finials made by William Pitts in the same year are formed as Sir Benjamin’s family crest ( a very attractive feature).A fine pair of dishes with an interesting history.
