19th Century Wheelback Windsor Armchairs.

An Extremely Attractive Early 19th Century English Pair Of Ash And Elm Windsor Armchairs, Having Hooped Backs With Elegant, Attractive, Pierced Wheelbacks Over Well Figured Seats And Elegant Turned Legs United By Turned H Stretchers.

Windsor chairs in varying sizes, shapes, forms and woods were one of the most commonly found, and used, items of furniture throughout english houses large and small in the 19th century. There is such a huge variety that it is almost impossible to list them all here.

These are a great example of their type, constructed from well figured ash and elm which has retained a wonderful untouched colour and patina. The backs are well formed and the wheelback design is always particularly sought after.

Overall the condition is very good and the chairs retain a beautiful untouched colour and patina, with particularly well figured elm seats. They have clearly been very much loved throughout the years of their life. As is always the case with country made windsor chairs there are some very small differences in turnings etc upon close inspection, but certainly not enough to be noticed without thorough, detailed inspection.

These high back windsor armchairs are perfect for such a huge variety of tasks around the modern home, from being placed at a farmhouse type dining table and used for eating at, to just a one off chair in a hallway which is good for perching on to take shoes and coats on and off, all the way through to perhaps being a bedside chair/clothes horse tucked away in the corner of a bedroom.
