19th Century French Mahogany Salon Chairs.

An Exceptional Quality And Extremely Attractive Pair Of late 19th Century French, Napoleon III Period, Mahogany And Brass Salon Type Side Chairs, Having Curved Top Rail Over Attractive Brass Spindle Support Decoration, Over Circular Caned Seats, Raised On Elegant Turned Tapering Legs Headed By Fluted Decoration With Original Brass Feet.

A very interesting pair of antique side chairs of French design from the end of the 19th century. They are exceptionally elegant and for relatively small chairs which would fit in some very small spaces they also have real presence.

These chairs are constructed from good, rich mahogany timbers and also nice solid brass mouldings. The overall quality of their construction is quite exceptional and they have clearly been made in one of the top French workshops of the time.

They are quite unusual in terms of their style and its difficult to decide exactly what their original purpose may have been, however when taking into account their elegance, presence and overall quality we don't think it would be at all difficult to find a whole host of spaces which they could now be utilised in both upstairs and downstairs around the home.

Overall the condition of these chairs is extremely good with very little historic damage or issues to speak of. Both caned panels have been replaced relatively recently so they are in good strong condition. There is also a couple of tired old seat cushions which were clearly made 30 or 50 years ago for the chairs and come with them, however we personally think that the chairs are much better and much more elegant without any cushions.

As with all items which we offer for sale these chairs have been attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being placed on sale to ensure they are in the best possible condition.
