An oak sculpture of The Virgin & Child with Saint Anne. The Anna Selbdritt composition in which the Virgin is taught by her Mother Saint Anne was a popular subject in Northern Europe during the 14th-15th centuries.
The subject gained popularity as it focuses on the humanity of Jesus in depicting the love of a mother & daughter as a comparison to the love of the Virgin to the human child of God.
Brabant, circa 1500.
Ex collection of the late Sir Peter Moores CBE DL (1932-2016)
