A handsome mid Nineteenth Century burr oak veneered pedestal desk by Holland and Sons; the leathered top crossbanded in burr oak above pedestals which each have four graduated drawers which retain their original turned knob handles and Bramah locks; raised on a plinth base which conceals the original lignum vitae castors. The ends of the pedestals and the rear of the desk are panelled and the desk is finished all of the way around so it can be displayed free standing. Holland and Sons were one of the finest cabinet-making firms of mid Nineteenth Century London. They supplied furniture to Queen Victoria's homes at Osborne House, Windsor Castle and Balmoral. This desk is typical of their fine quality work. The drawers are beautifully lined in mahogany and they have chosen lovely burr oak veneers for the desk. The locks in the desk are by Bramah who also had a Royal warrant from Queen Victoria.
