Nikifor Vasilyev Marquetry Commodes.

An exceptional pair of Russian panoramic marquetry commodes by Nikifor Vasilyev, St. Petersburg, circa 1780.

Each with it’s original eared and moulded bardiglio marble top. The front and sides elaborately inlaid in various woods including fruitwood, amaranth, maple and harewood, with a long frieze drawer inlaid with entwined branches above two drawers inlaid sans traverse with panoramic scenes, each depicting figures in boats on a lake with a town and wooded hills in the background. The rounded three-quarter columns and turned legs inlaid with neoclassical foliage, the sides with ribbon-tied fruiting branches, on acanthus leaf and ball ormolu feet.
