A matched pair of late 19th Century French brass mounted walnut leathered open armchairs / desk chairs.

French, circa 1870.

Dating to the Napoleon III period, the design of the chairs are in the Empire manner, often referred to as ‘Second Empire’ with use of brass mounts and fluting. Having a rectangular embossed leather padded back, studded and enclosed by a brass moulding, over padded squared arms with shuttered terminals on turned brass-fluted uprights.

The sprung seat retaining an old black and gilt embossed leather on tapering turned and brass luted legs joined by curved stretchers. Offered in excellent condition the chairs can be used as either decorative armchairs throughout the house or either side of the desk.
