Late 19th Century Japanese Iron and gold inlaid decorative box by Komai (Circa 1880).
From our collection of Japanese Meiji-era (1868 – 1912) metalwork, this fine rectangular box with hinged cover by the celebrated Komai Company.
The cover with an attractive gold-inlaid landscape scene with buildings and bridges, boats on a lake and Mount Fuji in the distance. The snow-capped peak picked out with Silver. The sides of the box adorned with fruiting vine decoration.
The inside of the cover also engraved with a depiction of Fuji and rooftops in the foreground. The underside with the iconic Dragonfly seal mark.
