A Very Good Quality Late 19th Century Aesthetic Movement Mahogany Hall Bench, Having Arched Top Rail, Three Foliate Carved Panels And Elegant Spindle Arches To Back, Over Figured Seat With Scrolling Arms To Ends, Raised On Elegant Turned Tapering Legs United By H Stretcher.

In Britain during the second half of the 19th century the Aesthetic Movement came around with an aim to escape the perceived ugliness and materialism of the Industrial Age, focusing instead on producing art and furniture that was beautiful rather than having a deeper meaning. Aesthetic movement artists, designers and cabinet makers crafted some of the most sophisticated pieces of the late victorian period.

This is a great example of its type, boasting fantastic carved decoration and elegant details such as the finely turned finials, tapered legs and spindle arches. Another great feature is that whilst being extremely well executed and undoubtedly aesthetic movement in design, this particular hall bench is no so elaborate that it would not fit with any other items of furniture around the home. In fact we think quite the opposite, this hall bench would work in just about any existing interior, with just about any existing furniture scheme.

Overall the quality and condition is very good, sturdy and very much fit for purpose and reasdy to place immediately into the home for use. It would suit a wide variety of spaces, not just the obvious hallway and adds a real touch of elegance and sophistication to just about any room.
