Large Oushak carpet.

Antique Oushak carpets have been woven in the Western Turkey since the beginning of Ottoman period. Since the 16th century, they have been amongst esteemed object d'art and appeared in many early paintings. During the late 19th century, the Oushak region became a major centre for furnishing carpets, particularly for the western market. Antique Oushak carpets are desirable today as highly decorative carpets for their large scale drawing, delicate colours and silky wool.

An attractive Oushak carpet dating the turn of the last century with a bold graphic drawings and harmonious array of vegetable dyed colours which have nicely aged.

In very good practical condition for every day use with minimal sign age related patina.

A charming example with a quiet formality to compliment a variety of settings, rare in this large squarish format.
