A Large and Impressive Near Pair of Green Granite Urns.
Each with a gadrooned edge and body with stylised scrolled handles and circular socle on a square base.
Large carved ornamental urns of this type, executed in marble, granite, porphyry or other hardstones became fashionable during the Seventeenth century, such as the examples illustrated by Alvar Gonzalez-Palacios, 'Il tempio del Gusto', 1984, p 147 and p 177 which represent urns conserved in the Museo del Prado, the Vatican and the Musée du Louvre, amongst others. They enjoyed a renaissance in popularity for the stylised interiors of the 1920s.
Italian, Circa 1920.
