This superb extra-large George III Silver Salver is of circular form with a shaped moulded edge which is an unusual design for the 18th century. The Salver is raised on four everted scrolled feet.

The centre is engraved with an elaborate cartouche containing the crest of George Pitt 1st Baron Rivers of Stratfield Saye . (Later owned by the Duke of Wellington from 1817). This is one of the largest Salvers ever made by Matthew Boulton & John Fothergill . This was clearly made as a special commission for George Pitt who was made Baron in 1776.
