An impressive Bronze and Multi-metal charger signed Fuji (Japanese, late 19th Century).

From our collection of Japanese Meiji-era metalwork, this impressive Bronze and multi-metal patinated circular charger with Gold, Silver and Shakudo decoration.

The dish contains five decorative panels. At the top, a cloud shaped panel depicts a group of noble men and women sailing on a boat. A playful monkey sits at the bow end. Under this a heart-shaped panel shows butterflies, crickets and a praying mantis enjoying a flowering bush. To the left, a fan-shaped panel shows a group of men and boys working on a hill-side as a waterfall flows past them. Under this a pair of red-crowned Canes stand under the Sakkura on a hexagonal shaped panel and finally a large circular panel shows a group of men and women at the banks of a Lake as a large boat sails into the distance toward the rising sun and Mount Fuji.
