An important pair of Louis-XVI period giltwood and gesso wall lights / sconces with exceptional original patina.

Italy Lombardy circa 1790-1800.

Of grand proportions, the four leaf and festoon decorated up-scrolled branches with beaded drip pans issuing from a cream-painted Nike (winged Goddess) below three protruding draped acanthus leaves on giltwood scroll and shell carved back plates.

Retaining the most wonderful original surface and patina.

Please note it is rare to find an impressive pair of sconces of this size and model in such lovely condition. The winged victory figures, Nike, similar to these where to become an iconic symbol in the early years of the 19th Century.
