A Pair of Henry VIII Apostle Spoons, St. Peter & St. James the Greater.
London, 1545 by William Simpson.
Length: 7 3/8”; Weight: 3 oz. 16 dwt.
During the 16th century apostle spoons were a popular baptismal gift for godchildren.
Silver from the Henry VIII period is exceptionally rare, and these are as close to a perfect pair of spoons as one could find. They are slightly heavier than the splendid Morgan Apostles of 1544, which we originally bought when sold by J. P. Morgan’s descendants in 1982.
Open Monday-Saturday 10-5.30 (Winter hours); Monday-Friday 10-5 (Summer hours)
