A small Gorge carriage clock by Henri Jacot of Paris, one of the finest of the carriage clock makers.

The eight-day duration movement strikes the hours and half-hours on a gong with a repeat button to the top allowing the hour to be struck at will. The silvered platform lever escapement is stamped to the underside with the makers serial number 8728.

The inside of the plates are stamped with the Jacot oval poinçon showing the various exposition award dates with the last on this example being the silver medal awarded at the Paris Exposition of 1878.

The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals, Arabic outer five-minute numerals and blued steel moon hands.

The base and lower rim of the gilded Gorge case are both stamped with a repeat of the serial number 5983, giving a date of manufacture of circa 1886.

With the original travelling box and numbered winding key.
