Georgian Chippendale carved mahogany armchair.

An exceptional George III Chippendale period mahogany armchair; the gadrooned and acanthus carved top rail above a beautiful pierced ribbon back splate which is delicately carved with acanthus leaves above drop-in seat upholstered in green damask; the outscrolling arms carved with more acanthus and the seat rails decorated with blind fretwork; raised on square moulded legs united by a pierced H-stretcher.

This is one of the finest Chippendale armchairs I have owned. The chair-maker has used the best Cuban mahogany in the armchair's construction and the rococo carving of acanthus leaves on the top rail, splat and arms is of the finest quality. It is rare to find the seat rails decorated with blind fretwork and the design of the ribbon splat is particularly elegant. Most importantly of all the armchair retains an exceptional colour and patination.
