Georgian Amethyst Comet Brooch circa 1790.
A pretty Georgian comet brooch.
The brooch is modelled with a pale amethyst head surrounded by a gold scrollwork border and a small turquoise set within the 'tail.'
The brooch is closed set to the reverse, typical of the Georgian era and the amethyst is foiled to allow the light to reflect back through the stone.
Comet references were popular in jewellery at this time following the appearance of Halley's Comet in 1758/9 and then again in 1835.
Price Code: B, £500 - £1000.
Era: Georgian, 1714 - 1837.
Measurements: Brooch 2.4cm in length, 3.4cm at widest point.
Hallmarks: Unmarked, tests as gold.
