Georgian 18th Century Walnut Tallboy.

A Fine Quality Early 18th Century, George II Period, Figured Walnut Tallboy, Or Chest On Chest, Having Three Short Drawers Over Six Long Drawers And Panelled Slide, Retaining Original Fretted Brass Plate Handles And Escutcheons, Flanked By Elegant Canted Corners To Top And Bottom, Raised On Original Shaped Bracket Feet.

This walnut tallboy, sometimes known as a chest on chest, is an absolutely wonderful example of its type, boasting lovely colour and patina to the well figured walnut veneers. It also has attractive canted corners to both the top and bottom, often only the top is shaped in this way, which again points to the overall quality and care taken from design through to construction.

There has also been very little significant restoration of any kind, in relative terms for an item of its age. This is highlighted by the retention of its wonderful original brassware and original feet. It is certainly quite rare to find a functional object such as this, which has no doubt received heavy usage at various times throughout its life, which remains so original.

Tallboys, or Chest On Chests as they are sometimes known are such useful pieces of furniture. This Georgian tallboy is as fit for purpose as the day it was made, with the added bonus of it being very untouched and charming, which is really quite something when you consider that it was originally constructed just under 300 years ago.

Like all of the items which we offer for sale this walnut tallboy has been attended to in the traditional manner at our workshops before being offered for sale, by our highly trained and skilled antique furniture restorers including a light clean and natural wax polish to ensure that it is in good retail condition and ready to be placed immediately into the home or workplace.
