Portrait photograph of George, Prince of Wales, afterwards King Emperor George V (reigned 1910-1936). Signed and dated in the prince’s hand in ink lower right ‘George P. / Bangalore Feb. 6th 1906.’ Framed and gazed.

George V and Queen Mary toured India and Burma as Prince and Princess of Wales in 1905-06. February 1906 found them at Bangalore (Bengaluru) having travelled from Bombay, Indore, Udaipur, Jaipur, Bikaner, Lahore, Peshawar, The Khyber, Rawalpindi, Jammu, Amritsar, Delhi, Agra, Gwalior, Lucknow, Calcutta, Rangoon, Madras and Mysore. On 5 February 1906  Prince George unveiled a statue of Queen Victoria by Sir Thomas Brock. It is one of five of fifty statues of the Queen Empress raised in India that is still in its original position - next to Sri Chamarajendra Park, named for the the 23rd Maharaja of Mysore, and the British military and civil cantonment. The Bangalore garrison was the largest concentration of troops in southern India. It was here on 6th February that a Grand Durbar was held. As part of the celebration the Prince of Wales presented the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabineers) as part of the Bangalore Cavalry Brigade with a new standard.
