George IV Octagonal Parquetry Mechanical Table.
ENGLAND, CIRCA 1825.
The octagonal oak top with parquetry blocks pattern and decorative stringing to the edges. The drum top contains one panel opened with a lockable catch on the underside of the top to reveal piano style keys which, when depressed, each open a corresponding drawer. On a central, triangular-form pillar and triform base with patchwork parquetry and reeded scrolled feet with decorative roundels. The secret panel has a brass lock stamped 'GR' below a crown indicating that the lock was manufactured during the reign of King George III, 1760-1820 or King George IV, 1820-1830. With replacement key.
