A George III silver tray commemorating the marriage of Admiral Thomas Le Marchant Gosselin, of circular form raised on three bracket feet, incised with the armorial is for the family of Gosselin with Hadsley in pretence, hallmarked to the underside for John Mewburn, London 1810.

Footnote: This tray commemorates the marriage of Admiral Thomas Le Marchant Gosselin (1765 – 1857) of Bengeo Hall, Hertfordshire and Sarah Hadsley in 1809. The Admiral saw service against the Franco-Spanish fleet off Plymouth in 1778, where he was captured and became a prisoner of war. Upon his death in 1857 he was the most senior officer on the Royal Navy’s active list, at the age of 92. A full copy of the heraldry report detailing his naval service will be given to the purchaser.
