George III English Fusee Bracket Clock by William Chater, London.

Stunning mahogany case with Cupola top surmounted by a ‘pineapple’ finial, profusely inlaid with brass, fishscale side frets and floral side carrying handles, the case standing on ball feet. 

Fine quality five pillar eight day double fuse movement striking the hours on a large silvered bell.

Re-Painted dial with Roman numerals inscribed ‘W.Chater, London’.  Circa 1810.

Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World by Brian Loomes lists William Chater as working in London from 1805-1844. An example of one of his clocks is featured in Richard Barder’s informative book ‘The Georgian Bracket Clock’ 1714-1830 (pg. 207)
