A generous and well proportioned French carved open armchair / fauteuil in the Regence manner.
French 1860.
This wonderfully generous carved beechwood armchair has a high shaped padded back with scrolled and acanthus leaf carved padded arm rests over a softly sprung wide stuff-over seat, raised on foliate carved cabriole legs terminating on a French scroll foot centred by a carved scalloped apron.
In superb original condition the timber has a wonderful period colour and patination, with the upholstery newly covered in a calico cream fabric with space nailing stud work retaining the original horsehair upholstered.
A good generous chair which can be used as either a lounge / reading chair or desk chair.
