French Green Tortoiseshell Boulle Clock by Jean-Baptiste Delettrez circa 1870.
Waisted case with green ‘tortoiseshell’ inlaid with fine brass decoration surmounted by an ormolu finial, ormolu mounts throughout and standing on raised bracket feet. The sides and rear door also decorated with floral brass inlay.
Gilded and chased dial with individual cartouche enamel numerals and enamel centre with fine ‘blued’ steel hands.
Eight day movement striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell marked J.B.D, the brass bob pendulum also marked for J.B.D. circa 1870.
Jean-Baptiste Delettrez is recorded in Tardy’s’Dictionnaire Des Horogers Francais’ as working originally in Paris from Rue De Berry Au Marais in 1850 then moving to Rue Charlot in 1890.
