Weathered Hand Carved and Painted Wood and Metal
British, c.1850
Provenance: Horton Manor, Chartham, Canterbury, Kent
Dimensions
92cms high x 21cms wide x 15.25cms deepCondition report
A handsome, original and early Scotsman Whirligig Figure in genuine "as found" original condition. The well scaled and bearded figure retains two original paddle arms, socketed into the "sleeves" of his scarlet tunic, which shows traces of both a band and belt, above his kilt and scarlet socks. Well weathered and with a large shrinkage split running almost full length to the back side, it is in a genuine state, entirely commensurate with its age and function, with significant scars bruises and losses, yet retaining strong traces of the historic painted decoration. A fine and early piece of European Folk Art Sculpture.Stock number
