Fine Shirvan Rug, circa 1900.
2.92 x 1.61 m.
Antique Shirvan carpets from the Caucasus are extraordinarily finely woven, showcasing richly detailed motifs and a stylistic complexity that sets them apart from other rugs from the region.
This early Shirvan rug has a rare earthy colour palette, with tones of aubergine, olive green, faded chocolate brown, ivory and a touch of light blue. Thanks to the skill of the artist, this example has a tight weave which lends its drawing a crisp clarity.
Retained in very good practical condition, still retaining all its four borders and fringes at both ends, this is a stylish and timeless rug, with a tribal creative flair, to add personality and charm to any setting.
