Fine Hadji Jalili Tabriz Rug, circa 1890.

1.58 x 1.27 m.

Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their fine weaves and remarkable adherence to the classic traditions of Classical Persian rug design. This elegant example is associated with the Master weaver, Hadji Jalili, well known as the artist behind some of the most exquisite and highly sought-after pieces of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of which can be spotted in grand historic homes across the UK and Europe. His workshop was famous for its creative drawings and use of soft understated colours.

This attractive accent rug is a fine example; its composition boasts a bold, large-scale design in relation to its small format, and a harmonious palette of natural dyed colours, including muted tan, ivory, grey and sky-blue.

Retained in excellent condition, still preserving its original fringes and all its borders, with a fine age-related patina to its colours.

An elegant rug to blend in a wide variety of settings, rare in this square format.
