An extremely fine and rare Antique Silver Early George II Hip Flask made by the celebrated Huguenot silversmith Peter Archambo. Early Georgian flasks are very rare and especially so by a maker of this importance. It has an original gilt detachable cup and a screw top upon which another stopper lies. The flask has fine early engraving around where it detaches and a crest with the initial ‘W’. Perhaps a member of the Earl of Warrington’s family who was Archambo’s most important customer (Dunham Massey). It is struck on the the base of the cup with Archambo’s second registered mark (1739). The fact that it is struck with his makers mark alone indicates a special commission. The flask as one would expect from a maker of this quality feels very substantial in the hand.
