A fine pair of Scottish landscape paintings most comfortably attributed to Patrick Nasmyth (1787-1831) Edinburgh and London. Both retaining old exhibition labels to their reverse, ‘No. 30 ….Scene in the Trossachs’, painted in oil on panel; the pendant painted on a panel prepared by ‘R. Davy, Colourman to Artsts’, ‘Patronized by Sir Thomas Lawrence etc., etc.,’
Finely framed within carved and gilded frames.

Patriarch of one of Scotland’s most accomplished families, Alexander Nasmyth is considered the founder of Scottish landscape painting. His immediate family included seven artists and one important engineer; James. From a young age, Alexander Nasmyth’s children were encouraged to assist in the artist’s studio, and it is known that they would sometimes paint cooperatively on the same piece.
