Exceptional Veramin Carpet, circa 1900s.

4.78 x 3.11 m.

Antique Veramin carpets are widely recognized as among the most exceptional Persian workshop weavings, best known for their remarkable quality, fine crisp drawings, wide variety of rich vegetable-dyed colours, and a range of characteristic designs that set these carpets apart from those from the neighboring regions.

The charming pomegranate blossom lattice employed in the design of this c. 1900s Veramin carpet is derived from earlier Azerbaijani rugs of the 18th entury and symbolizes prosperity, fertility, and longevity. Since this is an earlier example, it boasts a very high-grade weave, worked in lustrous wool - possibly Merino - lending a crisp clarity to its all-over pattern. The composition, with the well-balanced central field framed by an ivory border of unusually wide proportions, gives the work a real sense of space. Its restrained palette employs tones of soft terracotta, ivory and touches of green, set against a light sky blue field, forming a complimentary backdrop to the design.

Retained in very good condition for everyday use, with its borders and short fringes preserved on all sides.

A timeless example, with a discreet elegance that would suit a wide variety of interior styles - rare in this large format.
