 A RARE CARVED ENGLISH MEDIEVAL OAK SCULPTURE OF AN APOSTLE. CIRCA 1420.

THIS BEAUTIFULLY CARVED OAK ENGLISH SCULPTURE HAS A VERY SOFT FACIAL EXPRESSION AND WONDERFUL FLOWING HAIR AND BEARD. PROBABLY PART OF AN ALTAR SCENE, THESE MEDIEVAL ENGLISH PRE-REFORMATION SCULPTURES ARE EXTREMELY RARE SURVIVORS, AS DESCRIBED ON THE WEB-SITE

PROVENANCE- RECOVERED IN EAST ANGLIA AND THEN TO AN IMPORTANT PRIVATE COLLECTION UNTIL THE PRESENT DAY.

THE ULTIMATE AIM OF THIS WEB SITE IS TO BRING THESE WORKS OF ART TO LIGHT, NOT ONLY FOR THEIR DOCUMENTATION PURPOSES BUT ALSO FOR FUTURE SCHOLARS, THE WEBSITE WAS COMPILED BY THE WARWICK ARTS DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY.
