Elegant Tabriz carpet - Associated with Masterweaver, Hadji Jalili.
The city of Tabriz in north west Persia has a long heritage of fine rug weaving since the 14th century, possibly earlier. Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their excellent weaves and their remarkable attention to detail. This rug is attributed to a well know and highly influential masterweaver, Hadji Jalili, who created unique pieces during the Late 19th/Early 20th century. His carpets are often seen in grand country mansions in Europe and the UK.
This early piece takes its artistic design inspiration from 17th century Persian court carpets, with vegetable dyed colours which have aged nicely.
