Edwardian Owl Brooch circa 1910.
A quirky Edwardian Owl brooch.
The brooch is designed as a realisticly modelled gold owl sitting on a bamboo effect bar. The owl has green paste eyes and a fabulous 2 coloured rose and yellow gold textured design.
Owls have long been associated with wisdom, this dates back to ancient Greece. Athenians celebrated the owl as a symbol of wisdom because they considered it to be an emblem of Athena, the goddess of foresight and knowledge. To this day we associate the owl with intellect and learning.
This quirky brooch has a gold sprung pin to the reverse typical of the era.
Era: Edwardian, 1901 - 1920.
Measurements: Brooch 5 cm in length, 1.3 cm at widest point, 2.3 grams in weight.
Hallmarks: Owl stamped 9CT.
