A fine early 19th Century mahogany pedestal desk; the leathered top crossbanded in mahogany above three frieze drawers and a generous kneehole which is flanked by panelled doors veneered in beautiful flame mahogany and open to reveal banks of three drawers; the rear has three false drawers in the frieze and blind cupboard doors below, raised on a plinth base.
Circa 1840.
This desk is a fantastic example which is very comfortable to sit at and use; the generous kneehole allows a desk chair to be pulled up to the desk properly. The desk is more handsome than most examples with beautifully figured mahogany veneers on the cupboard doors and the ends of the desk and the panelling gives the desk an interesting, architectural feel. The desk retains an excellent colour and patination.
