Coromandel and Abalone Sewing Box.

The sewing box has delicate symmetrical fine silver stringing and wonderful Abalone and engraved Mother-of-Pearl decoration to the top and front with a brass framed Mother of Pearl initial plaque engraved with the letters L.E.J.F.  When opened the interior features a fully fitted sewing kit with mother of pearl handled tools. The inner lid features a central Mirror framed with a wine coloured silk velvet lining with a mother of pearl latched interior which folds down to reveal the Mechi label and is where you can store sewing patterns, delicate silk etc. The Mechi labels reads; ‘Made By Mechi 4 Leadenhall St London’  The removable tray is filled with ten mother of pearl thread spools, and four smaller ones of which two are waxers, a tape and pin sharpener. The little tray of accoutrements also has a silver pencil with semi-precious stone, silver thimbles, scissors and multiple other tools. The box dates to the early Victorian period circa 1850.
