I am delighted to add another piece by Christopher Dresser to the Collection. To my mind he is without doubt the father of both modern and commercial design.

This silver plated claret jug is a beautiful, elegant piece, and of course surprisingly modern. It is fully marked for James Dixon and Sons, model 2554, with Christopher Dresser engraved facsimile signature.

This model is exceptionally rare. For an identical model see “Christopher Dresser, A Design Revolution” by Michael Whiteway, page 152. This features the only other example I have been able to identify, part of the John Scott (Birkenhead) collection that was sold by the Fine Art Society in 2015.

Condition is excellent. The marks and signature are crisp. There are tiny imperfections in the glass which are original to manufacture. The glass retains good clear clarity. There is an old engraving of the initials “GS” to one side of the lid – see images.

Price range: £5,000-£10,0000.
