An extremely fine Victorian 9 carat gold sliding Propelling Pencil with very unusual spiral fluted body and mechanism, raised foliate scroll and acanthus leaf decoration to the slider ring and screw off terminal set with striped black agate seal stone. The screw off end cap reveals a multi compartment lead reservoir. The sliding mechanism travels around the spiral body to propel the pencil. The pencil nozzle marked for an 'M' size lead.
Complete with original silk and velvet lined fitted leather case.
Marked with a diamond registration mark only. Possibly by Sampson Mordan, circa 1860.
