British Sailor's Woolwork with Five Ships in a Bay.
Circa 1875.
The large sailor's woolie depicts two large merchant sailing ships sailing in opposite directions to each other in a bay, one with two masts and one with three with a grass and rock spit of land in the background. In the foreground are three small sailing yachts with a grassy outcrop of land in front of them. To the left is a signaling station building with a flagpole with three flags on it. The image is within an oval ground in brown with a colorful twisted thread border. The antique frame is gilded with a moulded shell design.
Dimensions: Frame 31 inches high x 46 1/4 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches deep.
