Attractive Tabriz Carpet, circa 1930.

4.05 x 3.14 m.

A beautiful Tabriz carpet, dated to c. 1930, with a wonderfully dynamic design, characteristic of earlier 17th-century weavings - each motif in the central field is creatively repeated in a variety of different forms and shades, over an ivory ground which provides a complimentary backdrop to the gracefully aged, vegetable-dyed colours in the drawing, framed by an elegant seven-part carnelian border.

The city of Tabriz in Northwest Persia has been known as a major centre of fine rug weaving since at least the 14th Century. Antique Tabriz carpets are distinguished by their tight weaves and remarkable adherence to the traditions of Classical Persian rug weaving design. This carpet, from the early 20th Century, is a particularly rare example of its type, since it demonstrates a much greater creative freedom than one would expect of a Tabriz rug from its era.

This piece is in very good practical condition for everyday use, retaining its outer borders on all sides.

An attractive example, in a rare format, which would make a wonderful addition to a tasteful setting.
