Attractive c. 1900 Qashqai Carpet
2.77 x 2.00 m

The nomadic Qashqai peoples of Southwest Persia have a long tradition of rug-weaving and are well known for crafting expressive, high knot-density pieces, often with the luxurious wool produced in the mountains and valleys of the Shiraz region, renowned not only for being exceptionally soft, but also for how well it takes to the dyes used in making rugs, lending the Qashqai weavings a wonderfully vivid palette. This early piece is a prime example - thanks to the skill of the artist, and the high density of knots in the weave, the drawing has a wonderfully crisp quality, featuring geometric and floral motifs in a well-balanced colour scheme of duck egg blues and muted terracotta and ochre tones, with tan and olive green accents, with a repeated diamond pattern running through the central field, framed by three individual borders.

A charming tribal piece, to add character to a tasteful interior.
