Arthur Blackburn (1853-1925) was born in Huddersfield and studied at Leeds College of Art. He exhibited widely and is recorded as having worked on paintings with John Atkinson Grimshaw. He exhibited at the R.A. and other private and public galleries.
The present painting "Winter" is a charming little oil painting on board. Measuring 9"x 6" it is signed lower left and is framed in the original gilt frame giving an overall size of 16"x 12".
