Art Deco Diamond Royal Artillery Sweetheart Brooch circa 1930.

A beautiful Art Deco diamond set enamelled Royal Artillery Sweetheart Brooch in its original fitted case.

The elaborate military brooch is designed as the Royal Artillery cap badge of a muzzle-loading cannon on ground facing left with a rammer resting against a rotating diamond set wheel.

The brooch has the regiment's two mottos a scroll bearing UBIQUE (everywhere), resting on which is an Imperial (King's) crown and an elaborate scroll bearing QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT (where faith and glory lead). Both mottos, awarded in recognition of distinguished service around the world, are finely enamelled.

The brooch is beautifully made with a secure hinged pin fastening with scrolled closure.

The Royal Regiment of Artillery, commonly referred to as the Royal Artillery (RA) and colloquially known as "The Gunners", is the artillery arm of the British Army. The Royal Regiment of Artillery comprises thirteen Regular Army regiments, King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery and five Army Reserve regiments.

Sweetheart brooches have been popular since the early 20th century and were given to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one. They were worn to show pride in having a sweetheart who was serving his country. They were made for every budget from base metal to platinum and designs were made for every aspect of the military.

Era: Art Deco, 1920 - 1940.

Measurements: Brooch is 2.6 cm in height, 3.5cm at widest point. 6.4 grams.

Hallmarks: Stamped 18CT.
