A beautiful Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch.

This lovely brooch has rosecut diamond set wings with a white gold Art Deco RAF motif set within a green enamel laurel wreath under a red enamelled Kings crown. There is an integral safety clasp to the pin. The brooch is in wonderful condition with no damage to the enamel.

This brooch was originally owned by the wife of the Aide-de-Camp (personal military aide) to Edward VIII (Duke of Windsor) when he was Governor of the Bahamas from 1939-45.

Sweetheart brooches have been popular since the early 20th century and were given to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one. They were worn to show pride in having a sweetheart who was serving his country.

The brooches were made for every budget from base metal to platinum and designs were made for every aspect of the military.
