A very fine and attractive Antique Silver George III Cake Basket made in London in 1780 by Burrage Davenport. The basket has fine beadwork around the rim and the foot and is very finely pierced and hand engraved to the body in a lovely style. It is very neatly hallmarked by the joints of the handle - two marks to one side - two marks to the other and is hallmarked on the original swing handle. This basket also has a glorious contemporary crest of a Griffin engraved in the centre. This basket would be perfect for fruit ,bread or cakes or just as a centrepiece on a table.
