An Antique Perfume Container.

Song Dynasty.

960 – 1279 AD.

The tear drop shaped ornament is made from a sheet of gold and decorated with repousse, chasing and cut out gold.

The perfume container is made in two halves with one fitting tightly into the other.

Between the two leaves would be placed fragrant leaves or other scented material.

The ornament would be suspended from the belt or attached to a shawl.
