Antique Northwest Persian Runner, circa 1900s.
3.53 x 1.33 m.
‘North West’ refers to a myriad group of villages with weaving styles borrowed from a wide range of influences from the surrounding regions, particularly Turkey and the Caucasus, and often including unique, tribal interpretations of sophisticated workshop weavings from further south in Persia.
This antique Northwest Persian runner, boasts a unique variation in tone across the field - over time, the organic vegetable dyes in some sections have turned from indigo to sky blue, lending the work a wonderful sense of character. The drawing features a stamped abstract pattern, in tones of sage green and terracotta, framed by a three-part decorative border.
In very good condition, with soft wool, and suitable for everyday use - a charming piece to add personality to any setting.
