Antique Bidjar Carpet.

6.65 x 3.80 m.

Antique Bidjar carpets from Northwest Persia are famed among Persian tribal village rugs for the high quality of their weaves and striking designs and colours. Bidjar is situated along a corridor between the borders of Persia, Anatolia, and the Caucasus, and this wide variety of cultural influences is well-reflected in the diverse range of styles and patterns represented in its carpets.

This earlier Bidjar carpet, dating to the beginning of the last century, showcases a much greater sense of creativity in its design and use of colour, compared to later pieces, with a series of palmettes in an all-over pattern across the field, cleverly repeated in a wide range of forms and vegetable dyed hues, including cornflower blue, olive green, ivory, and ochre tones, over a blue-grey colour field, which forms a charming backdrop to the variety of colours in the design. Its well-balanced composition is framed by three, individual borders.

In very good condition for everyday use, with its original plain outer borders preserved on all sides.

An attractive example, with a tribal charm and character, to suit a wide variety of interiors - one of the finest Bidjar carpets we have had the pleasure of coming across, and rare in this large format.

To arrange a viewing for this carpet, either in situ at your location, anywhere in the UK, or at our London studio showroom, please be in touch.
