The BADA Christmas Gift ListAlice des Clayes was a Scottish painter, sister to Berthe des Clayes, born in Aberdeen. She studied at the Bushey School of Art with Lucy Kemp Welch, who specialized in painting horses; at Newlyn and at Ambleteuse with Dudley Hardy. She emigrated to Montreal Quebec in 1914.
"The Coloured Pony" is a delightful oil painting on canvas, a superb example of her work. The painting measures 20"x 24" and is signed lower left. It is framed giving an overall size of 25" x 31". On the back are remains of old labels giving an address of "Lemonford, Bickington, Newton Abbot, Devon".
